2015 NFL Mock Draft V2

By Camden Joiner on November 25, 2014

Roughly a month and a half ago I posted my first NFL Mock Draft of the season. Six weeks later, much of the college and professional football seasons respectively are coming to a close.

The eventual outcome of next April’s Draft is much more apparent now that the majority of the football season is ending, which makes it a fine time to post my 2015 NFL Mock Draft Version 2.

1. Oakland Raiders: Leonard Williams, DL, USC

In the first version of my mock draft, I had the Raiders selecting quarterback Marcus Mariota. However it appears the Raiders are now content with rookie quarterback Derek Carr under center.

I don’t think Carr will serve as a successful long term option in Oakland, but I suppose he will suffice during their rebuilding years. The Raiders need help at nearly every position, so I think they take the best player on the board and at this point that seems to be defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska

The Jaguars have lacked a pass rusher for some time and Randy Gregory could fill holes at the linebacker position or defensive line, depending on head coach Gus Bradley’s liking.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

Josh McCown and Mike Glennon have split time at quarterback for the Bucs, but both have failed to impress. Tampa Bay will have a decision to make between Marcus Mariota and in-state quarterback Jameis Winston, but I think that Marcus Mariota is by far the better prospect.

4. Tennessee Titans: Shane Ray, DE, Missouri

Zach Mettenberger has played well enough down the stretch for the Titans to earn further playing time as QB1, nor do I think the Titans are ready to give up on Jake Locker either. The Titans have a dire need on the defensive side of the ball and I believe they’ll take someone who can get to the quarterback consistently.

5. New York Jets: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford

Many experts have the Jets selecting Jameis Winston in next year’s draft. But believe it or not, I think the Jets are smarter than that.

Jameis Winston has great potential to be yet another sideshow fiasco waiting to happen and the Jets are certainly tired of being the laughing stock of the league. They should play it smart and boost their offensive line at the tackle spot.

6. Washington Redskins: Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M

In the first version of my mock draft I had the Redskins taking Cedric Ogbuehi and I still think the same. The Skins have a potential issue at quarterback boiling, but it’s too early to give up on RG3 just yet. Give the man some better protection and then judge his ability.

7. New York Giants: Leonard Floyd, OLB, Georgia

During the late fourth quarter run by Tony Romo and the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, Romo had seemingly all day in the pocket which eventually led to a game winning touchdown.

The Giants need to find a linebacker that, along with Jason Pierre-Paul, can put some pressure on the quarterback.

8. Carolina Panthers: Brandon Scherff, OL, Iowa

Cam Newton has been hit more than any quarterback in the NFL the past few seasons and is beyond in dire need of better protection up front. Hopefully for the Panthers, the best few offensive tackles in the Draft won’t already be taken at this point.

9. Atlanta Falcons: Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson

The Falcons have disappointed for the second straight season, despite still having a chance to win their division. After selecting Jake Matthews in last year’s draft, Atlanta now needs to turn their sights to a pass rusher.

10. Minnesota Vikings: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

The Vikings continue to be a wildcard pick as there doesn’t seem to be any glaring holes. Minnesota should simply take the best player on the board in Amari Cooper, who has the potential to be the next great NFL wide receiver.

11. New Orleans Saints: Dante Fowler Jr., DE, Florida

New Orleans could use an upgrade at nearly every position on defense and selecting a pass rusher that could immediately impact their defense is the best move here.

12. St. Louis Rams: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State

There is talent to be found on both sides of the ball for the Rams. But St. Louis continues to rank among the worst teams in the league, partly due to quarterback Sam Bradford’s proneness to injury.

Winston is a big risk, but in the medium sized market of St. Louis and with an already talented team in place, Winston is set up to succeed.

13. Cleveland Browns: Kevin White, WR, West Virgnia

This spot would actually belong to the Bills, but the Browns garnered this spot in the draft in part of last year’s trade that netted Sammy Watkins for the Bills. The Browns have a serious need for skilled players and should draft the best wide receiver on the board at this point.

14. Chicago Bears: Landon Collins, SS, Alabama

The once great Bears defense has fallen into utter despair. Chicago has room to improve at every defensive position and should take the best defensive player on the board. Landon Collins is quite the remarkable player and would instantly improve the Bears’ D.

15. Houston Texans: DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville

Andre Johnson is wrapping on the door, so to speak, of his illustrious career and needs a replacement. The Texans should absolutely draft a quarterback at some point, just not this early.

16. Miami Dolphins: Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin

The Dolphins have struggled to stay healthy and consistent at the running back position and Melvin Gordon will be the top running back on the board after Todd Gurley suffered an ACL tear.

17. Cleveland Browns: La’El Collins, OL, LSU

After selecting a wide receiver with their first pick, the Browns should shore up their offensive line. Collins can play both tackle and guard and would be an attractive asset.

18. Baltimore Ravens: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon

Baltimore has a dire need at the corner back position and Ekpre-Olomu will be the highest rated corner on the board.

19. Pittsburgh Steelers: P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State

Similar to division rival Baltimore, Pittsburgh needs all kinds of help at the defensive back position. P.J. Williams will be quite the steal this late in the draft.

20. Detroit Lions: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State

Ironically the third straight team in a row to have a need at defensive back, the Lions will take the best available corner back at this point.

21. San Diego Chargers: Alvin Dupree, DE, Kentucky

San Diego got off to a hot start, but has considerably cooled down since their early win over Seattle. The Chargers lack consistency on defense, specifically the defensive line.

22. San Francisco 49ers: Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State

Michael Crabtree will probably declare for free agency and Anquan Boldin is surely nearing retirement. The 49ers should settle for the best wide out left on the board, but thankfully it’s a deep position in this year’s class.

23. Seattle Seahawks: Devin Funchess, TE, Michigan

With the departure of Golden Tate and Percy Harvin, Russell Wilson and the Seahawks are quickly running out of offensive weapons.

24. Kansas City Chiefs: Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn

No wide receiver has yet to catch a touchdown for the Chiefs this season, so an obvious need for a talented wide out is apparent.

25. Indianapolis Colts: Danny Shelton, DT, Washington

The Colts don’t have many needs, but could certainly improve on the defensive front.

26. Cincinnati Bengals: Shaq Thompson, OLB, Washington

Back to back defensive players from Washington being selected here. The Bengals should also consider a quarterback in the later rounds.

27. Philadelphia Eagles: Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State

Philadelphia’s offense and special teams are perfectly set, but the Eagles could use a boost in their defensive backs.

28. Dallas Cowboys: Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State

The Cowboys have a need at every defensive position, but specifically on the defensive line.

29. Denver Broncos: Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami

Denver is loaded on offense, but injuries and lack of depth of defense have slightly held back their potential.

30. Green Bay Packers: Shilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan State

Not too many apparent holes for the Pack, but could certainly improve on the defensive line.

31. Arizona Cardinals: Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA

Carson Palmer just resigned for another five years, but his recent ACL tear and age should warrant an eventual replacement draft pick from the Cardinals. Brett Hundley would add a new offensive dynamic to the Cardinals’ offense.

32. New England Patriots: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

Despite his recent ACL tear, Todd Gurley will absolutely be a steal this late in the draft.
