By Uloop Guest Writer on April 15, 2015

Do you think you have what it takes to study marketing? If you’re a hard worker, and a strategic thinker, you are already well suited for this kind of degree.

Marketing is a line of study that is ideal for natural leaders, and individuals who are outgoing, persuasive, creative and competitive. And, there are some great jobs that can be obtained once you have graduated.

Keep reading to find out more.

Opt for a Double Major

Where possible, it’s always best to opt for a double major when you are studying marketing. This is because the field is so vast, and you will be much more attractive to employers if you have a degree that encompasses two subjects.

Consider combining your degree in marketing with something like business, public relations, advertising, or even psychology. These types of degrees complement each other because they are all useful in the marketing industry.

Whether you want to work for an ecig marketing company like Eventige, or a PR company, having experience in more than one area will help put you a step ahead of the competition.

Case Studies are Important

During the course of your marketing degree, you will be provided with a number of case studies to study. These will show you the tactics that have worked for a company, and those that haven’t.

Pay close attention to these, as they will show you what to do and what not to do when it comes to marketing in the real world. You will be expected to read a lot of these during your degree, so try and take in as much information as you can.

Learn How to Work with Others

Although being a natural leader, and being able to work on your own is important, it’s just as important to be able to work as part of a team. Many marketing projects will require group input, and you won’t be able to do everything on your own.

As part of your degree, you may also be expected to work with a group of students, who will also rate you based on how well you worked together. Sometimes it’s important to follow other people, and share ideas, so the quicker you can figure out how to work with others, the better you will do.

Pay Attention to Lecturers

Finally, it’s also important to go to your lectures, and pay attention to them. There are many students who feel that they can simply gain a degree by reading a textbook, and whilst this may be true in some cases, there are some things that cannot be learned by reading.

Marketing professors have a wealth of knowledge in the marketing industry, and the things they lecture about are both relevant to your degree, and useful in the real world. They have a lot of knowledge to share with you, and a lot of it cannot be picked up by simply reading a textbook.

A marketing degree will be challenging, but once you have graduated, you will feel truly rewarded. Good luck!
